While scientific research on swallow nests was still scant, but there is a strong belief that the bioactive compound contained in it can play an important role in creating refreshment effects. The mystery of this compound could be confirmed through identification by sophisticated technology. Such as HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) and GC-MS (Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrophotometer).
Almost 50% of the protein contains form of glycoprotein of swallow nest in addition to carbohydrates, water and lipids. Within the body, protein plays an important active role as builder, creator of cells and new networks during metabolism processes.
Animal-based proteins have more solid nutrition due to its more complex compound than plant-based proteins. Moreover, there is widespread acceptance that one of these compounds – the Azitothymidine – could control HIV/AIDS.
In addition, swallow nests serve as complete amino acid sources, comprising 17 important, semi important and inessential amino acids. Based on these important findings, further scientific research were continuously been expanded until they reach western world, to the extent that the later shall be more seriously explore the possibilities of swallow nest to cop cancers, heart strikes, and even HIV/AIDS infectious disease.
One of the experts of Forestry Faculty of Bogor Institute of Agroculture found the existence of compound required for human body health, including, among others, ODA (9-octadeceonic Acid) & HAD (Hexadeceonic Acid) having characteristics in stimulating the well functioning of enzymes of human bodies to the extent that it could improve body metabolism 3-5 times more than normal functioning. There is a conjecture that the mineral contains of swallow nest were very effective in supporting human body’s activities. Some of them were calcium, Iron, Phosphor, Potassium, and etc.
